PROJECT SUMMARY

Notch is a ground-up typeface developed in Summer 2023. It is inspired by the liths of Stonehenge, particularly the counters (insides) of the stones. Wanting to stay away from classic, stereotypical Nordic & Celtic inspired typefaces, I studied particularly on the forms of the rocks. Their verticality, flat tops, and especially the negative space on the inside was particularly inspiring. Notch is a capital typeface reflective of these particularities, with more emphasis on the form than anything else. The specimen is 1/20th the actual size of Stonehenge.
